Career of Edmund Barton
He stood in the election of the University of Sydney but lost. He won the same seat in August 1879. It was abolished in the next year, and then he became the member for Wellington. In 1882, he became Speaker of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. In 1884, he became the President of the University of Sydney Union.
