Career of Atal Bihari Vajpayee

He joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh as a volunteer in 1939. In 1957, he won the Balrampur seat of Lok Sabha. In 1977, when Morarji Desai held the office of Prime Minister, he had given the responsibility of the Minister of External Affairs. In the 1996 election, he became the Prime Minister of India but could not garner the majority in his favor and had to resign after 13 days. The second time he became the Prime Minister in 1998 but after 13 months All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) withdraw its support as the result the Lok Sabha was dissolved. In 1999 general election, he became Prime Minister of India once again.

One more interesting fact about him is that he was a classmate of his father when they both joined Law College (DAV College in Kanpur). They were also room partners.

He was elected as a Member of Parliament from Balrampur seat in the 2nd General Elections of 1957.
Vajpayee made a big impression on Indian Parliament with his maiden speech and at that time then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru predicted that one day he would become the Prime Minister of the country.
He was a huge supporter of Hindi language and is the first person to deliver Hindi speech at the United Nations.
He was honored with the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna on 27 March 2015.

He worked for nuclear weapons and made India a powerful state after the nuclear test Operation Shakti at Pokhran in Rajasthan in 1998. After the successful test, even the neighboring country started being afraid of the power of India.
To improve relation with neighboring country Pakistan, Atal started a bus named as Sada-e-Sarhad to Lahore in 1999.
He had gone through a knee replacement surgery at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai in 2001.
In 2009, he suffered a stroke which puts a break in his political career. He could not speak properly. His near one says that he is often confined to a wheelchair and fails to recognize people. Other health issues like long-term diabetes is also a matter of great concern to his well-wishers. He was admitted to hospital on 11 June 2018 in a critical condition.
After a long treatment at AIIMS, Delhi. He died on 16th August 2018. The whole country shed tears on his death. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he could not find words to express his grief. All the school and college, even the markets in New Delhi were closed to pay homage to the late former Prime Minister.
