Career of John Young
His NASA career began when he joined NASA Astronaut Group 2 in September 1962. He was a pilot of Gemini 3. He was also a pilot for Gemini 6. He was a command module pilot for Apollo 10. He also went on Apollo 13 as a backup commander. He was chief of the Space Shuttle program in early 1973. He was the commander of STS-1. He retired from NASA in 2004.
