Career of Richard F. Gordon, Jr.
He was selected by NASA as one of the third group of astronauts in October 1963. He was a backup pilot for the Gemini 8. For Apollo 9, he served as a backup Command Module Pilot. Also as a Command Module Pilot of Apollo 12. He spent 315 hours and 53 minutes in space. He retired from NASA in January 1972.
