He was selected by NASA in June 1998. He went on the missions STS-117, Expedition 15/16, STS-120, STS-131. He was also an aquanaut at the time of the NEEMO mission with the Aquarius underwater laboratory for fourteen days. He retired from NASA in January 2013 after an honorable service of 15 years.
