Career of Ranil Wickremesinghe

He joined politics with the United National Party in the 1970s. He became the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1977. He also served as Minister of Youth Affairs and Employment. He held the office of the Minister of Industry, Science and Technology in 1989. He became Prime Minister in 1993 following the assassination of Premadasa and became the President when Wijetunga was also killed by LTTE. He became a leader of the opposition in 1994 In 2015, he resumed the office of Prime Minister. He was removed from the seat in October 2018. Though he contested in the 2020 election but lost his seat in Parliament.

He is also an Advocate who completed his studies at the Ceylon Law College
During his reign as Prime Minister, he set a high-powered responding Police Division named Financial Crimes Investigation Division to investigate the Rajapaksa regime. Basil Rajapaksa was arrested after that.
He also signed a ceasefire agreement with LTTE in February 2002. Though he was also criticized for his decision after the agreement Sri Lanka became a safer place and the number of tourists also increased.
He became a Cabinet Minister when he was just 28 giving the country Youngest Cabinet Minister. He is also the best Education Minister of Sri Lanka focusing on English, computer, and technology.
