He started boxing professionally at the age of 15. He initially started with Light welterweight after which he settled at welterweight division. He won IBF lightweight Champion in 2006. He won over EBU welterweight Champion Matthew Hatton in 2011. He also won the match in the 5th round by TKO over Kermit Cintron.
