Borley Rectory was a clergy house built in the Gothic Revival style of the architect in Essex, England. The site is noted as the most haunted throughout England. It was built by the Reverend Henry Dawson Ellis Bull in 1862 as a house for the rector of the parish of Borley village in North Essex. It was an alleged haunted house ever since it was built in 1939 and was heavily damaged by fire and demolished in 1944.

  • The most concerning fact about the site that the house built in 1862 on this place was the replacement of an earlier rectory which was also demolished in a fire in 1841.
  • A theory about the place suggests that a monk in 1362 having a relationship with a nun who were living in the neighborhood of the place. After the expose of their relation, the monk was executed and the nun was bricked up alive in the walls of the convent. In 1938, it was declared that the theory has been made-up by the rector's children.
  • Talking about the paranormal incidents that occur at the place, it was initially reported in 1863 when locals heard some mysterious footsteps within a house. Several folks claimed to have witnessed a diversity of puzzling incidents including seeing two headless horsemen, etc.
