Career of Daniel Carter Beard
He wrote many articles for St. Nicholas Magazine while he was attending art school. He was recruited as editor of Recreation magazine where he started writing a monthly column for youth. In 1905, he founded Sons of Daniel Boone which was based on American frontier traditions. His organization was merged in the Boy Scouts of America in 1910. He was the founder of Boy Scouts Troop 1 in Flushing, New York.
