- In his childhood, he lived a very poor life. He worked in farms, Grew crops and cleared the land of 130-acre. His father asked him to leave farm life and become a cloth designer but after some days he came back to the home cause of severe mistreatment.
- After moving to Montville he worked under the Judge Walter Wood who was their landlord and the wealthiest person. He worked as a law clerk with for the trial period.
- He used to earn a little money by giving advice to the farmer according to the lawsuit but later he decided to left his law clerkship. He left working with Wood after 18 months and for his work wood didn't pay him anything.
- He started his political career by joining the anti-Masonic party as a lawyer but later he moves to the Whig party with Henry clay.
- He was the vice president and after his death, he was able to get the position of President.
- In his honor, the United States Mint made the thirteenth coin in the Presidential $1 Coin Program.
