She is an American film, stage, and television actress. She was also a dancer and a singer, was born on 7th October 1917, in The Bronx, New York, USA. She was so fond of dancing and singing since her childhood. She was the winner of Golden Globe award for giving her best appearance in "Too Young to Kiss". She was raised in a roman catholic family. She got married four times, first she got married to Dick Powell on 19th August 1945, they had two children and got divorced, after few years she got married to Alfred Glenn Maxwell on 13th October but their marriage did not last long and they got divorced soon in 1965, after one year she again got married to Alfred Glenn Maxwell on 1st April 1966 but after four years marriage again not lasted long and got divorce, on 30th October 1976, she got married to David Ashrow, they stay together until her death (8th July 2006).

In 1937, before starting her career as an actor she started her career as a dancer, she used to dance in short subject films and on Broadway. She used to dance at clubs prior to become famous as an actress. Once she was castes as a Danny Kaye in a comedy series, after which she started getting breaks in several well-scripted movies. She had done several movies, some of her well appeared movies are: Swing for Sale, The Prisoner of Swing, Rollin' in Rhythm, All Girl Revue, Best Foot Forward, Two Girls and a Sailor, Her Highness and the Bellboy, Two Sisters from Boston, High Barbaree, The Three Musketeers, The Reformer and the Redhead, Remains to Be Seen, Strategic Air Command, You Can't Run Away from It, They Only Kill Their Masters, A Girl, Three Guys, and a Gun.
