He started working on television in the 1960s on the shows like 'Z-Cars', 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner', he became famous with 'The Likely Lads' and also in its sequel 'Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?' He played the role of Jack Ford in the BBC Television series 'When the Boat Comes In'. He voiced Sir Archibald Flint in the 'Doctor Who' audio play 'The Spectre of Lanyon Moor'.
