He started his career in boxing and afterward moved to film line.
Boxing
His boxing career is from 1934 to 1942. His best fight was with Joe Louis which was unsuccessful attempts to win the heavyweight boxing championship. He had won fifty-one fights out of fifty-eight fights.
Films
He appeared as Kid Brody in 1937 for the film Take It from Me. He had a small role of Boots Wilson in the film Africa Screams. He was Ursus in Quo Vadis which was released in 1951. Also in the same year, he had worked in the films Two Tickets to Broadway and Flame of Araby. He performed as Sgt. Riley, The Giant in the movie Jack and the Beanstalk and was Romaine in The Big Sky in 1952. His three films were released in 1953 Fair Wind to Java as King, Dream Wife as Vizier, The Marshal's Daughter in which he played himself. He played the character of Nicolai Gregorovitch Karakozeff in the film Jubilee Trail in 1954 and was Lenhardt in Slightly Scarlet. In 1957, his character was Henchman Stan in the film Hell Canyon Outlaws. His two films were released in 1958 Giant from the Unknown as Vargas the Giant and Once Upon a Horse as Beulah's Brother. He played the character of Hordred in the film Snow White and the Three Stooges in 1961. He provided his voice to the character Big Benjamin in The Magic Fountain in 1961 and in the following year he performed in The Bashful Elephant as Tavern Owner. His last performance was in the film Ride Beyond Vengeance as Mr. Kratz.
Television
He had performed the role of Atlas in Superman in 1958. He had made his guest appearance in Peter Gunn, Adventures of Superman, Sky King, Toast of the Town, Tales of the Vikings. He had a small but unforgettable character in the episode Never Pester Chester of Gunsmoke.
