Pete Sampras is a retired American tennis player and one of the great player in the history of the sport. In 1988 he started his professional career in tennis and with the 2002 US Open, he got retired from the game. In the last match at 2002 US Open, he defeated the rival Andre Agassi in the final. He won 64 singles titles and also was the first man who won 14 Grand Slam singles titles.

Pete Sampras was born on August 12, 1971, in Washington, D.C. His parents are Soterios "Sammy" and Georgia Sampras. Every Sunday he goes to attend regular services of the Greek Orthodox Church. From very early his interest towards tennis was shown and hit the ball with the racquet made by him against the wall. Later his parents move to Palos Verdes, California. At the very early age, he met his idol, Rod Laver and later he also played with him. His parents join the Jack Kramer Club and there his talent became so clear.

Career of Pete Sampras
He becomes professional in 1988 and from the rank of world's No. 893 come to rank World No. 97. At 1989 Australian Open he lost his first round but for the first time at year's French Open he won the Grand Slam singles match. With the rank World No. 5, he finished 1990. In 1990 he did not play in French Open lost in the first round of Wimbledon. In 1991 he won the Tennis Masters Cup which is first of his five career titles at the year-end. For the first three consecutive years, he reached to quarterfinals of the French Open. In early 1993 he reached the semifinals of the Australian Open. In 1994 he won the first of two Australian Open titles.
