She started her career in a One day match against Ireland at Milton Keynes in 1999. In this match, she scored unbeaten 114 runs. She was the captain of the Indian team when the team reached finals in the 2005 Women's Cricket World Cup. She had scored one century and four half-century in Test cricket and five centuries and forty half centuries in One day up to 2013. In 2017, she had scored 6000 runs in WODIs and became the first player to make a high score in WODIs.
