She started participating in the sport as a freshman. She represented the Oregon Track Club in her starting career. She won the Oregon high school state championship in the mile in 1970. She secured the second position in the 3,000 meters at the AAU national championships in 1970. She has also secured the winning position in the Oregon state triathlon in the year 1984, 1986 as well as in 1987.
