More Information
Career of Louis Armstrong
He started his music career with playing on brass band parades in New Orleans and also worked with the band of Fate Marable, which toured up and down the Mississippi River. With this experience, he began to experiment with his music and perform extended trumpet solos and was one of the first jazzmen to do this. In 1922, Joe "King" Oliver invited him to join his Creole Jazz Band which was the most influential jazz bands in Chicago. They separated in 1924 and after a short time, he was invited to play with the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra in New York City. In 1925, he realized that the Henderson Orchestra was limiting his artistic growth. He started recording under his own name with his famous Hot Five and Hot Seven groups.

Crisis in the life of Louis Armstrong
He was just twelve years old when he was arrested for firing .38 revolver in the air. He joined a group of boys who sang on street for money that day also he gone for the same job and taken his stepfather's handgun, without permission. He was sentenced at the Colored Waif's Home. Those were very bad days of his life as there were no mattresses to sleep and many times they ate only bread and molasses. Sometimes, he received severe corporal punishment. But he received musical training there which started his musical career. He released from the custody on June 14, 1914.
He also suffered from lip damage as the trumpet is a hard instrument for a lip. In his Europe tour, he suffered severe ulcer that he had to stop playing trumpet for a year. He was advised to take proper treatment for his lips but he did not care for that and in his final days' doctors refused the surgery as it was very risky.
