Career of Ray Anthony
After the Second World War, he started his own Orchestra which became very popular with "The Bunny Hop" and the "Hokey Pokey". His remake of the Glenn Miller tune, "At Last", becomes the highest charting pop version of the song in the U.S. at that time. He and his orchestra were featured in a summer replacement program for Perry Como's CBS television show. He performed in the television series TV's Top Tunes as a music director, and as himself in the film Daddy Long Legs. He had a starring role in The Ray Anthony Show in 1956-1957. He appeared in many films like The Five Pennies as Jimmy Dorsey, High School Confidential as "Bix", and Girls Town. His record with the theme from Peter Gunn reached #8 on Billboard's pop chart. "Christmas Kisses/Let Me Walk With You" was released in 1961. He became one of the most modern of the big band leaders at the time. He and his band were also seen in the movie The Girl Can't Help It. Some of his compositions are "Trumpet Boogie", "Big Band Boogie", "Thunderbird", "The Bunny Hop".
