I was blown away by her performance as grandma Catherine Dahmer in the Netflix series about killer Jeffrey Dahmer. I did recognize her immediately as having played the mom on The Waltons. I thought she brought a measured, kindly and yet bewildered response in her portrayal of the hopeful grandma who just could not understand her grandson's proclivities, but wanted to help him in her own way. She reminded me of my own grandmother who passed at the age of 75 when I was 10. I wondered if her influence may have contributed to Jeffrey's jailhouse conversion just prior to his death at the hands of another inmate. He was said to have commented that he loved his grandmother. She really tried to understand the completely misunderstood person he was. All others simply gave up on him. I felt that compassion combined with confusion in Michael Learned's portrayal of Grandma Dahmer. She's one of a kind!
