She is an American film, television and stage actress, born on 3rd December 1941, in Indianola, Mississippi, USA. She has done several television shows and many feature films. She used to do acting since her young age, prior to begin her career as a professional actress she used to gave her performance on stage in her hometown. She completed her graduation from Chicago State University.

She started her acting career in 1974, "The Education Of Sonny Carson". She also gave her appearance as a guest star in Several television series. In 1993 she earned an Emmy Award for her phenomenal performance in I'll Fly Away.
