She was an actress, writer, and a licensed psychologist, was born on 15th July 1920, in New Ulm, Minnesota, USA. She was very much fond of writing, we can also say that her first love was writing. She had a lung problem, and because of it she spent her two years in Minnesota's camp. When her father became sick she took the place of her father at the age of thirteen. She got married two times in her life, first she got married to Hugh Beaumont on 13th April 1941, later they divorced in 1974 after three children, and then she got married to Fred Doty on 25th June 1975, till his death.

She completed her study from Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota. And she also worked there as a catalog clerk at the headquarters of Montgomery Ward. She first time worked at the age of 13 when her father became sick, she took the place of her father. She completed her master degree in Educational Psychology. She not only worked as an actress but she was also a Licensed Psychologist and a writer. She had published her two books named "A long year of silence" and "Wild Orphan" in 2007. She had also published her an autobiography named "Becoming the Mother of Me". She initiated her acting career in 1939, by doing a movie named "5th avenue girl".
