Alan Arkin's son Matthew Arkin was born in Brooklyn, New York, the U.S. on March 21, 1960. His mother was a nurse Jeremy Yaffe. He remains with his mother after their divorce up to the age of 7. After that, he started living with his father and stepmom actress Barbara Dana, in Greenwich Village. He had worked in his father directed film People Soup with his brother. Acting

He had worked with his father and brother in his childhood in Academy Award-nominated short film People Soup. Studied acting at the HB Studio and his first break was on Broadway in Neil Simon's Laughter on the 23rd Floor. In 1997, he had worked in Broadway revival of The Sunshine Boys as Ben Silverman. He was nominated for Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor for the play Dinner with Friends and the name of his character was Gabe. In 2006, he worked in Broadway production of Losing Louie as Reggie Ellis. Some of his films and television shows are All My Children in 2007, Law & Order in 1991-2009 and 100 Centre Street in 2001. In 2009, he had performed in the world premieres of Richard Greenberg's Our Mother's Brief Affair and in 2011 in Steven Drukman's The Prince of Atlantis. He was the main character in Samuel Hunter's The Whale in 2013.

Teaching

He had taught acting techniques in HB Studio in New York City in early 2008 and later in the same year Actors Studio in Los Angeles. He is working as Director of the Acting Intensive Program at South Coast Repertory in Southern California since 2015.
