About Toronto Zoo
Toronto Zoo as the name suggests is a zoo situated in the Toronto city of Ontario province in Canada. It was opened for the public in August of 1974. It is the largest zoo all over Canada which is spread in an area of about 287 hectares. It receives over a million visitors in a year. The zoo could be accessed daily from dawn to dusk except for Christmas day.

- The zoo is home to over five thousand animals of more than 460 species. The animals in the zoo include snow leopards, African elephants, white lions, and Sumatran Tigers.

- In 1985, when a pair of giant pandas named Qing Qing and Quan Quan was displayed in the Zoo for three months lent from China, a crowd of thousands of visitors broke to see them. In this year, the number of visitors to the zoo was maximum compare to previous years.

- The zoo also has an educational-themed water park which was founded in 2001 and was opened to the general public in 2002.

- The Gorilla Rainforest in the Zoo is considered to be the largest indoor habitat for western lowland gorillas all over the world.

- The zoo was subject to controversy in November of 2009 after the death of the third elephant in 14 months. After her death, the remaining three elephants were moved to a sanctuary in California and the display of the zoo was closed.
