About Neelkanth Mahadev Temple
Neelkanth Mahadev as the name suggests is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is just thirty kilometres away from Rishikesh town. It is a popular pilgrimage site and is overcrowded during Saavan month of lunar year. Here the pilgrims offers sacred water from the holy river Ganga which are carried by them as Kanwar on shoulders. They also offers milk, honey, flowers and other things to the diety to get blessings.

How To Reach Neelkanth Mahadev Temple
You can arrive at the temple using the trekking route or through taxi or car whichever is preferable. Taxis are available in Rishikesh which leaves you at the temple comfortably. You can also go there with your own private vehicle using the same route.
However, if you have planned to trek to the temple then you have to take another route after crossing
Ram Jhula, there is a short route for Pedestrian or kanwaris. After some hours of trekking, you will reach the temple.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Neelkanth Mahadev Temple
- According to legends, Lord Shiva meditated at this place for about sixty thousand years after consuming Kalakuta poison obtained from the ocean churning by Devas and Asuras. After getting relief, he installed a throat shaped shivling beneath the Panchpani tree which is present even today at the Grabha Gruh of the temple.
- The temple is made in the Dravidian style even though it is located in North India.
- There is also a natural spring inside the temple complex where the visitors take holy bath before getting darshan.
- The temple is located at the place where Pankaja and Madhumati river meet and is surrounded by Manikoot, Brahmakoot, and Vishnukoot adjacent to Nar-Narayan mountain ranges.
