About Bharat Mandir
Bharat Mandir is the oldest temple located in Rishikesh. The temple is also described in Kedar Khand. It is also mentioned in Varah Puran where Lord Vishnu appeared before Raibhya Rishi seated on a mango tree. Many Hindu epics including Mahabharat mentioned the temple. It is also known as Hrishikesh Narayan Temple and is a home to few relics which are found during excavation. No fee is charged by the temple authorities to visit the place. It remains open from 5:00 am to 12:00 pm and evening opening timings are 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

How To Reach Bharat Mandir
Bharat Mandir is the oldest temple and could be reached easily. You can use any of the local transport means to reach the temple.
By Foot
The temple is just 500 m away from the popular
Triveni Ghat so if you are there a small walk can take you to the temple.
By Train
If you are going to Rishikesh by train, the place is just 1.5 kilometers away from Rishikesh Railway Station. So if you are good at walking, you can reach the temple on foot, otherwise, you can hire a rickshaw or other local means of transport to reach the location.
By Bus
Some of the nearby bus stands are Nepali Farm and Natraj Chowk. From there you can take a rickshaw or a small walk can take you to the temple.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Bharat Mandir
- Many of the Hindu scriptures like Mahabharata, Shrimadbhagwat, Narsingh Puran and Vishnu Puran mentioned this temple so it is considered as an ancient temple located in Rishikesh. It is also said that Pandavas during their way to heaven stayed at the temple and worshipped Hrishikesh Narayan.
- It is also believed that the temple was converted into Buddhist monastery during the reign of Ashoka. A Buddha stature and few relics were found during excavation.

- According to Varah Puran, Lord Vishnu gave darshan (appeared) to Raibhya rishi siting on a mango tree, as a result, tree bent down due to the weight. The tree is known as kubjamrik.
- The name of the temple is dedicated to King Dushyant and Shakuntla’s son Bharat who performed several Ashwamedh Yajna and Rajsuya Yajnas at the place.
- According to Narsingh Puran, Prahlad visited the temple during his way to Badrikashram.
- The main structure of this temple was built by Adi Guru Shankaracharya in the eighth century. It was destroyed in an attack of Timur in 1398 AD
- The temple is a home to a museum which showcases pottery, sculptures and decorated bricks found in excavation.

- The temple celebrates the festival of Vasant Panchami, which attracts a lot of pilgrims. On this day, Lord Vishnu idol to brought to Mayakund for holy bath and after a huge ceremony, it is taken back to the temple.

- The idol of Lord Vishnu is made from a Saligram, a single black stone, and has a Himalayan cast of features.

- It is also said that taking 108 rounds of this temple on the occasion of Akshya Tritya is equivalent to the pilgrimage of Badrinath Dham.
