About The Koh i Chiltan
Koh-i-Chiltan is a summit of the Chiltan mountain group situated in the Balochistan province of Pakistan. It is a steep rocky mountain having an elevation of 3194 meters above the ground. Chiltan mountain group comes under Sulaiman Mountain. It is on the third rank among the highest mountain peaks on Quetta while being the fifth-highest all over Balochistan. You can find several juiniper trees on these mountains. The summit is home to numerous animals and several types of birds including markhors, jackle Fox buck, and wolf even an extinct animal called Chiltan ibex was found in these mountains.
Some Lesser Known Facts About The Koh i Chiltan
- According to the local lore, there was a couple who was unblessed with child for many years. One day a priest's son gave her forty pebbles and prayed that the lady bear children. After some time, she delivered forty babies which was much more than they wished. The husband left thirty-nine babies in the mountain summit and carried the fortieth baby with him. The wife who was guilty of their act went to the mountain to collect the bones of her children as to get them proper funeral. She was surprised to see that all the children were living and were playing on the trees and rocks. She brought the fortieth baby on the mountain filled with joy so that he can also play with brothers. But on the next morning, there was no baby on the mountain. Till than the mountain is said to have been haunted by the spirits of these forty babies.
