About Qutb Minar
It is a minaret having a height of 73 meters. It is also famous as the world's tallest minaret made with bricks. The minaret is so popular that it has become a symbol of the Capital city. It was built in 1192 on an order of Qutab-ud-din Aibak. You can visit the monument between 7:00 am to 5:00 pm but it is advisable to go there in the morning time as the city receives scorching heat during summer months and also there would be less crowd in the morning time. It remains open all seven days of the week. A small amount of ticket is required which is 30 INR for an Indian citizen while if you are a foreign national then you have to pay 500 INR per person to visit the monument.

How To Reach Qutb Minar
The monument is well-connected with public transports so it is easy to reach there without any inconvenience. You can take any of the following means to reach there:
Bus
If you are going there by bus then you have to leave your bus at Qutub Minar bus stand at Kalu Ram Road. Other bus stands like Mehrauli Terminal, Lado Sarai Crossing, Route No 604, Main Bus Stand, and Ongole bus stand are also nearby which could be opted if your bus is going at these bus stands. From there you can hire a rickshaw or an autorickshaw to reach the destination.
Metro
Metro is the most economical and popular means of transport in the capital city. You have to reach nearby metro stations like Qutab Minar metro station, Malviya Nagar station, Hauz Khas metro station, Munirka metro station, or Kailash Colony Metro station. Several public transport options are available outside these stations, you can hire any of them to reach the monument conveniently.
Air
The monument is just 20-25 minutes driving distance away from the Delhi airport so can take a taxi after arriving at Delhi airport to reach the destination directly after landing in the capital city.

  • It is one of Delhi's most visited sites and is a fine example of Indo Islamic architecture.
  • There is a dispute in beliefs regarding the name of the minaret. Some believe it is named after Qutb-ud-din Aibak who was the first Muslim ruler of India while others says that it is based on the name of Khwaja Qutb-ud-din Bakhtiar Kaki, a saint from Baghdad.
  • The Government of India has banned to climb the tower after a dreadful accident happened in which 45 people were killed in 1981. But, if you are curious about what is inside the tower you must know that it contains around 379 stairs to the top of it. It is approximately 14.32 meters wide at the base while has only 2.75 meters at the top.
  • Besides main minaret, the complex has several other historical monuments like Alai Darwaza, Iron Pillar of Delhi, the Tomb of Iltutmish, Major Smith's Cupola, and the Tomb of Imam Zamin. It also has a big maintain park like area to attract the visitors.
