It is a Buddhist monastery that was started in the year 1906.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Po Lin Monastery
- It was established as "The Big Hut" by three monks. While in 1924, the monastery got its current name.
- The preaching of the monastery is telecast through a program named "Po Lin in a Century" by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK).
- The monastery also focuses on education and has opened educational institutions like Tsing Shan Buddhist School, and Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College to provide better education to the students.
- An important fact about the statue is that it was a subject to corrosion due to environmental conditions, concentrations of sodium and chloride of the electrolyte solution on the bronze surface. Many other reasons due to which the requirement of renovation arises. It started on June 2nd 2020 and the visitors are not allowed until 18th August.
