About Perjuangan Rakyat Jatinegara
Jatinegara Struggle Monument is a monument to give tribute to all the people who contributed to Indonesia's war of independence. It is situated at the intersection of Jl. West Jatinegara and Jl. Urip Sumoharjo at the end of Jl. Matraman. The idea of creating a monument was given by Ali Sadikin then Governor of DKI Jakarta but it was inaugurated by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Tjokropranolo two and a half years later in June 1982. It was designed and constructed by the sculptor Haryadi using cast concrete and gypsum.

You can go there by using either public transport or a private car whichever is suitable. If you are going there by train then you have to get off at Jatinegara train station from there you can hire a taxi to reach Jalan mantra man where the monument is situated. The place is also connected with the Transjakarta bus service which helps you reach the destination at a low cost and in less time.
Some Lesser Known Facts About Perjuangan Rakyat Jatinegara
- The monument was made to commemorate all the events and struggle in a series of battle including the areas of Malay Village, Paseban, Pal Mariam, Fashion Market, Gang Bunga among other in which people of Jatinegara were involved.
- The monument consisted of a man with a height of 2.5 meters with his arms crossed hugging a rifle, carrying weapons on his waist, and a backpack on his back. Also, there is a boy statue wearing shorts and hanging a slingshot around his neck. The height of this statue is one meter.
- It took a long time to create this masterpiece. About 2.5 years were spent to make this statue.
- Initially, there was a plan to set the monument at the Viaduct Jatinegara location but it was not possible due to some technical issues, and finally, this location was chosen to build the monument.
- The place has become an excellent tourist attraction where you can give your tribute to those who contributed to the Indonesian war of independence as well as enjoy the outing at rest areas. There are also shopping centers and restaurants at the location to make a perfect picnic spot.
