Some Lesser Known Facts About The Sagamore
- Constructed in the year 1888, the estate was named after the American Indian character "the sagamore" from the book "The last of the Mohicans" by James Fenimore Cooper. The story goes that over 100 years ago during the Victorian-era, a hotel operator, Myron O. Brown, manager of the Mohican House Hotel convinced four millionaires, who were summer residents on Lake George, to build an exclusive resort community. Together they bought Green Island and opened the Sagamore.

- It is on the list of Historic Hotel of America, which is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The hotel has survived two fires in the past. First in the year 1893 and later in 1914. In June 1893, a fire broke out in the laundry room, destroying the structure and burning it to the ground. It was rebuilt by the year 1921.

- After it fell into disuse and was abandoned in the year 1981, the resort was then purchased in 1985 by real estate developer Norman Wolgin of Philadelphia and rightfully restored to its Georgian-style grandeur. Built-in the Queen Anne form of architecture, the hotel today offers 350 guest rooms for accommodation.

- The Sagamore takes advantage of its beauty strip to offer swimming, boating, kayaking, sailing, parasailing, banana boat rides, fishing, and a luxury dinner cruise on their boat! As well as a 10,000 sq ft. large outdoor pool and fitness center featuring aerobics classes and yoga, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, and summer camps for the kids.

- Numerous accounts of ghost sightings have been reported. Famously, a little kid dressed in the 1950s fashion, who was allegedly hit by a car, is seen causing mischief and stealing golf balls and flinging them at golfers and laughing.

- Another story claims the sight of a fighting couple, who enter the dining room and start arguing. He flings her to the floor in a rage while she reaches for him from the carpet, only to fade away. They?ve also been seen in a second-floor room.

- It is said a blonde woman once spoke to a hotel chef, then proceeded to walk right through him! He then later quit. The hotel was designed as a destination for wealthy guests, and the legends suggest several of their spirits may still be lingering.
