If you are born in 80s and 90s, you must know what was the craze for the film “Hum Aapke Hain Koun!” There were huge crowd outside theatres and the shows remained housefull for a long time. It was the film liked by every age group. Still, the film could be seen on OTT platforms without getting bored. It was the first film with two intervals and a duration of 4 hours. However, some of the scenes and songs were cut in some theatres to shorten the length of show. It was a Rajshri Productions which is known for giving family drama. There was no action drama, no villain and no fight of Good over evil, still the film was highest grossing in Indian cinema. Today the film has completed 30 years of its release and is one of the most iconic movie in the history of Indian cinema.
Story
The film starts with two orphaned brothers Prem and Rajesh look over by their uncle Kailashnath. Rajesh becomes a successful businessman after growing up and the family was looking for a suitable bride for him. Later on, his marriage was fixed with Kailashnath’s college friend Siddharth’s eldest daughter Pooja. In between the marriage functions, Prem and Pooja’s sister Nisha fell in love with each other. After some time, Pooja gives birth to a baby and Nisha spend some time in Pooja’s home when Pooja was pregnant to help her in household works. Love between Nisha and Prem flourished at the time.
When Pooja was going to her parent’s house, Prem talked about his love for Nisha and Pooja gives her a necklace for blessings. Shorty after that, Pooja fells from stairs and died. Nisha takes care of the baby when the whole family was shattered by Pooja’s untimely death. The family decides to marry Nisha with Rajesh, but Nisha thought that the talks were about her marriage with Prem and she agrees.
Later on, she comes to know about the reality, but both lovers decide to sacrifice their love for the family. But when Rajesh comes to know about the matter then he talks with both of them and later on whole family arranges for the marriage of Nisha and Prem.

The film has 14 songs and most of them were sung by
Lata Mangeshkar and
S P Balasubrahmanyam. All of the songs of the film were liked by the viewers and became a part of life. The song “Didi Tere Devar Deewana” was one of the most popular film songs ever and remained on the chart for the whole year.
Some Interesting Facts
- At first, Bollywood actress Sridevi was approached for the female lead role, but she turned down the role as she was busy in film Malayalam film “Devaraagam.”
- The film was a remake of Rajshree Production's own film “Nadiya Ka Paar” but still became the most successful film.
- The film took about four years to complete from conception to its release and actress Madhuri Dixit was paid 27, 540,000 INR for playing Nisha. It is said that it was much higher salary than what Salman Khan received for the role of Prem.
