About Maurice Richard
Maurice Richard was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. For the Montreal Canadiens, he played 18 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). In 1960 he got retired with 544 made by him his career. He played in 13 All-Star Games and was also named 14 post-season NHL All-Star Teams, eight on the First-Team. Along with the Elmer Lach and Toe Blake he made 'punch line' which was a high-scoring forward line of the 1940s. With the eight Stanley Cup championship teams he was a member and for last four, he was the captain of the team. He got so many honors in his career and after retirement.

Early Life of Maurice Richard
On August 4, 1921, he was born in Montreal. He was the son of Onesime Richard and Alice Laramee. His father was a carpenter and after he born his father took the job of Canadian Pacific Railway. Richard was in great depression because In 1930 Onesime lost his job and can not get aid from the government until he again joins the railway in 1936. At the age of four, he got his first ice skates and he used to skate on local rivers and a small backyard ice surface which was made by his father. Until age 14 he did not play the organized hockey. He also played baseball and was a boxer but his real passion was hockey. He drops out from school at the age of 16 and as a machinist, he worked with his father. To get trade certificate he enrolled with technical school. He spokes very little so that people can't assume him.

Career of Maurice Richard
In 1940 he was promoted to the Montreal Canadiens' affiliate in the Quebec Senior Hockey League but in the first game, he met with the ankle injury due to which he missed his remain season. HGe came back in 1941?42 season and joined QSHL Canadiens. He played 31 games and 17 points and got again injured. The 1944?45 NHL season was the record making season of him in which he made 50 goals in one season. Due to injury he again missed 20 games of 1951?52 season NHL season but later came back with playoffs. In 1955?56 he led his team to the Stanley Cup championship. In 1956?57 during the 15th NHL season he was named for the captaincy after retiring of Emile Bouchard.

Achievements of Maurice Richard
In 1947 as an NHL's most valuable player he received the Hart Trophy. He was inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961. For three years 1952, 1957, and 1958 he won the Canadian Press male athlete of the year. In 1957 he received 'Lou Marsh Trophy' which was given to the Canadian athlete of the year.
