- Like other kids he also plays a cricket on streets and in very small age he made his dream to become an Indian cricketer. At the age of 13, he joined the Young Cricketers club due to his interest in cricket.
- Due to his fast or different bowling techniques, he was named as 'Jumbo'. He does the fast deliveries like a jumbo jet.
- At the age of 19, he plays his first match for Karnataka against the Hyderabad in 1989.
- He started his career as a medium pacer but got famous with India?s most successful spinner.
- In 1995 he got the prestigious Arjuna Award and then in 1996, he was named as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the year. In 2005 he also awarded Padma Shri.
- After Kapil dev, he was the second player who takes the 400 test wickets.
