Some Lesser Known Facts About Terry Fox
- In his childhood, he was very competitive and hate losing. If he loses then he starts from the beginning and works on it until he succeeds.
- He was very much interested in the basketball but at that time he was only five feet tall and was not good in the game, so his school physical education coach Bob McGill tell him to join distance runner because he thinks that it will be good for him but he only accepts the offer because he didn't wanted to disrespect his coach.
- While driving back to his home his car meet with an accident and hit a pickup truck which results an injury on his knee. At that time it was ok but in December he felt pain but he ignored but in March 1977 the pain was unbearable and then he went to the doctor where doctors said that he has osteosarcoma, which is a type of cancer. At that time he was survived by the amputation of her leg from his body.
- After the amputation, he was walking for 3 weeks with the artificial leg and also played the gold with his father.
- He was invited to try the wheelchair basketball team by the Rick Hansen who was the member of Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association. He accepts the offer and in less than 2 weeks he learns to play the sport and became the member of the team. With this team, he won three national titles.
- He started the 'Marathon of hope' in 1980 in which he raises the funds for the cancer patient.
- In both 1980 and 1981, he was named as the Canada's New maker of the Year and as the nation's top sportsman he won the Lou Marsh Award.
