Songwriter
He was only fourteen when he recorded his first album "I Confess". In 1957, he has written a song "Diana" for his brother's babysitter. This song became number 1 song on the Canadian and US music charts. After that, he wrote four songs which rank him among Top 20 in 1958. In 1959, He has written a song for Buddy Holly "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" which Holly recorded just before his death. He has written, "She's a Lady", "My Way" in 1959. In the 1960s he has written a song "Lonely Boy", "My Home Town". In 1970, "She's A Lady" which is sung by Welsh singer Tom Jones. He has written five songs for an album by Don Goodman. In 1976, he has written "Anytime (I'll Be There)" for Sinatra.
Acting
From the starting of 1960, he joins motion pictures and starting acting and writing song for them. He appeared as a US Army Ranger in the film The Longest Day. He performed his own character two times in NBC's short-lived crime drama Dan Raven. In 1991, he has a guest appearance in Made-for-TV movies, The Case of the Maligned Mobster. He was a yacht broker in Captain Ron in 1992. He played his own character in an episode "Treehouse of Horror VI" on The Simpsons in October 1995 and also in the episode "Red's Last Day" on That '70s Show and in "The Real Paul Anka" episode of Gilmore Girls. He has played various characters in NBC TV series Las Vegas. And in 2001, he appeared as a casino pit manager in 3000 Miles To Graceland.

He went to Las Vegas casinos to become a pop singer after recording "My Home Town".In 1970 he recorded his two albums one was self-titled and other is Jubilation. In 1974, he has recorded "(You're) Having My Baby" which became a No.1 hit. He has recorded the duet with Odia Coates which includes "One Man Woman/One Woman Man", "I Don't Like to Sleep Alone", "(I Believe) There's Nothing Stronger Than Our Love." He recorded a jingle called "Times of Your Life" for Kodak in 1975 and this jingle became so popular that he recorded a full song of it in the following year. "Hold Me 'Til The Mornin' Comes" in in the summer of 1983 was also hit. After a gap of fifteen years he comeback with the album A Body of Work in 1998. In 2005, his album was Rock Swings. In November 2011, he recorded the album Songs of December.
