Career of Bob Seger
He started his career with a three-man band called "The Decibels" whose first song was "The Lonely One". When the band disbanded he joined the "Town Criers" covering the songs "Louie Louie". He joined Doug Brown and his band called "The Omens". He contributed a song called "East Side Story". He signed with Capitol Records, turning down Motown Records. After some time Capitol changed the name to "The Bob Seger System" and its first single was the anti-war message song "2 + 2 = ?"

- His first encounter with music was in a three-piece band known as "The Decibels". There were only three person in the band in which Bob' work was on guitar, piano, keyboards, and vocals, Pete Stanger on guitar, and H.B. Hunter on drums. All of them were from Ann Arbor High.
- He was inducted in the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2001 and in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
- His first song to be played on the radio was his original song "The Lonely One". The song was aired only one time on an Ann Arbor station.
- Once when he was in the Doug Brown and the Omens, he recorded a parody of Barry Sadler's song "Ballad of the Green Berets" as "Ballad of the Yellow Beret". Sadler took the matter seriously and threatened Brown and his band with a lawsuit which led to the immediate withdrawal of the recording soon after the release.
- His popularity in his hometown was much less than Detroit. In 1976, he once played in front of 80,000 fans at the Pontiac Silverdome. While on the other hand, the next night the strength was less than 1000 fans in Chicago.
- Although his song "Like a Rock" was hit on the radio, best recognition of the song is from the Chevrolet television commercial. He authorized the song to be played to support struggling Detroit autoworkers.
- The song "Shakedown" co-written by Seger for which he had received an Oscar nomination was initially supposed to be sung by Glenn Frey. But just before the recording session Frey lost his voice and Seger was asked to record the song which was a grand hit.
- Apart from singing, he also has other interests. He won the Port Huron to Mackinac Boat Race aboard his 52-foot (16 m) sailboat Lightning.
