Alka Yagnik is an Indian playback singer who worked in Bollywood industry for 3 decades. He got many awards and honors for music. her songs are featured BBC's 'Top 40 Bollywood Soundtracks of all time' review.

Early Life of Alka Yagnik

She was born on 20 March 1966 in Kolkata in the Gujarati Hindu family. Her mother Shubha Yagnik was also a singer. She studies from Modern High School for Girls. She started singing at age 6 and sing for the Akashvani in Calcutta. Her mother brings her Mumbai at the age of 10 but got advice to wait until her voice became matured. Later from his Kolkata distributor, she got a letter of introduction to Raj Kapoor. He listens to her voice and impressed with her and send her to director Laxmi Kant with a letter.

Career of Alka Yagnik

In very small age she starts singing bhajans for the Akashvani (All India Radio), Calcutta. She sings her first song 'Mere Angane min' for the movie 'Payal Ki Jhankaar'(1980). She got famous with the song 'Ek Do Teen' from the movie 'Tezaab'. She has collaborated with many composers like Ismail Darbar, Aadesh Shrivastava, Viju Shah, M. M. Keeravani, Bappi Lahiri, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Sandesh Shandilya, Kalyanji?Anandji, Rahul Dev Burman, Laxmikant?Pyarelal, Rajesh Roshan and so on. As part of National Literacy Mission of India, she along with Sonu Nigam sing a song 'Shiksha Ka Suraj' in 2012. In 1,114 films she sung 2,486 Hindi songs.

As the best playback singer, she has won many awards like Bollywood Movie Awards, IIFA Awards, Star Screen Awards, Zee Cine Awards, Filmfare Awards, National Awards, and so on. She has the record of winning maximum awards and nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer.

Yagnik has sung and recorded over 2,400 Hindi songs in more than 1,110 films. She is often dubbed as 'the queen of playback singing'.
