Amit Kumar is a playback singer, actor, music director, and director. He has sung many Hindi and regional songs. along with Hindi, he has also sung in other languages like Bhojpuri, Odia, Assamese, Marathi, Konkani, and Bihari. From his father movie, he made his musical debut as a child.

He was born on 3 July 1952. His father Kishore Kumar is a famous Indian singer and actor and his mother Ruma Guha Thakurta was Bengali singer and actress. He has an interest in singing from his childhood and sing song in the local Durga Pooja functions. Once someone tells his mother that he was singing in Durga Pooja and his mother told his father and his father bring him to Bombay.

From his father movie 'Door Ka Raahi' he gave his singing and acting debut. In this movie, he sings one song 'Main ik panchi matwaala' debut later remo0ved from the movie. Outside his father's composition, he sings his first song 'Hosh Mein Hum Kahan' for movie 'Darwaza' in 1978. He sang song 'Aati rahengi baharein' for the movie 'Kasame Vaade' later he did playback singing for the Randhir Kapoor's movie 'Chor Ke Ghar Chor' (1978) and 'Dhongee'. His duet song with Rafi 'Ram Kare Allah Kare and Humto Aap Ke Deewane Hai' and Lata Ka 'Janu Main Sajaniya' was the famous song. He sings a song for television film 'Janam'. He also sings song for the Hindi dubbed cartoon series of 'Duck Tales' and 'Bob the Builder'. He was the judge in tv show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Mr/Miss Universe 2010. In 2006 he sings the song 'Dil Mein Baji Guitar' for the movie 'Apna Sapna Money Money'.
