Career of Madhubala
She started her career as a singer in All India Radio. Her first film role was in the film “Basant” for which she got a salary of 150 Rupees but her contract was dropped down as it does not require child artist. She played minor roles in five of Ranjit’s films including Mumtaz Mahal and Phoolwari. Her first lead role was in film “Neel Kamal.” Her first commercial success was with the film “Lal Dupatta.” Her work in the film “Mughal-E-Azham” is remembered even today. Some of her other hit films are Mahal, Kala Pani, Barsaat Ki Raat and Howrah Bridge.

- Madhubala was the highest-paid actress in the post-independence era.
- Besides showing her superb talent in acting, she also owned a production house named Madhubala Private Limited. She has produced three films under this banner including Mehlon Ke Khwab.
- The actress was born in a poor family and was fifth among the eleven children of Ataullah Khan who used to work in Imperial Tobacco Company. Four of her siblings died as infants.
- Madhubala died when she was just thirty-six, as she was born with a ventricular septal defect. At that time, there was no treatment of the disease.
- She never went to school as she belonged to an orthodox muslim family. In fact, only her youngest sister Zahida was educated in school and her other siblings learned some skills of Urdu, Hindi, and Pashto only from their father.
- Her father being an orthodox was strictly against the acting profession but had to change his decision when he lost his job in 1940. At the time, Madhubala was just seven-years old was employed at All India Radio to sing composition of Khurshid Anwar.
- The actress was sued by B.R. Chopra in the mid -1956 for being uncooperative and unprofessional following a conflict between her and Chopra during filming "Naya Daur." She was replaced by Vyjayanthimala, but the lawsuit continued for eight months until it was withdrawn by Chopra himself.
- Madhubala was also cast by popular director Guru Dutt alongside Nargis in his production, Pyaasa, but both the actresses turned down the role and Mala Sinha and Waheeda Rehman were cast instead.
- Though she never went to school, but was an intelligent person and learned fluent English in just three months. Also, she learned driving at the age of 12.
- The actress was an animal lover and had kept eighteen Alsatian dogs in her home.
- Nobody knows her grave location now as her grave was demolished alongside other industry personalities in 2010 to make way for newer graves and her remained were placed in an unknown location.
