I am a Trekkie from way back. My favorite go-to programs are from the original Star Trek series even though I've seen each program so many times that I know every character's lines ; I never grow tired of these. Star Trek Voyager runs a close second. Having a female captain brought a whole new dimension to the series. Captain Janeway is extremely intelligent, resourceful, professional and a wonderful role model for young girls. She shows us that women can be whatever we want to be. She also has a different side that male captains do not have. Although I adore the character Captain Kirk, he is a typical male and there is nothing wrong with that, but the character Captain Janeway tends to show more emotion towards her crew, in other words she shows her emotions more freely, at the same time being strong and capable, a wonderful combination. Kate Mulgrew did a fantastic job as Captain Katherine Janeway. I don't think anyone else would have done better. The only thing about the series that I disapproved of was Seven-of-nine. She was absolutely poured into her outfit once again demonstrating that men always have to take away from women by showing them as nothing more than sex symbols. Aside from that, a great series and a great captain !
