When she was married to Zachary Scott on February 21, 1934, she was called Elaine Scott and changed her surname to Elaine Steinbeck by marrying author John Steinbeck. John Steinbeck died on December 20, 1968. She also has a daughter Waverly. She died at the age 88, on April 27, 2003, in Manhattan.
