He started his career with a small role in the film Endless Love. He appeared in All the Right Moves and Risky Business from where his fame started. He had a starring role in Interview with the Vampire. He played the role of Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible and reprised the role in its sequels. Criticism of psychiatry
He made a controversial statement in January 2004 that he think psychiatry should be outlawed and criticized actress Brooke Shields for using the drug Paxil which she uses for postpartum depression after the birth of her first daughter in 2003. Shield responded that he should mind his own business. He apologized for his statement in August 2006.
Lawsuit against Chad Slater and Michael Davis
He filed a suit against gay porn star Chad Slater in May 2001, who told the celebrity magazine Actustar that he has an affair with Cruise. He also sued Bold Magazine publisher Michael Davis who said that he had a video which proves that Cruise is a gay. The suit against Davis was dropped when he made a public statement that the video was not of Cruise and that Cruise is straight.
