He appeared in about thirty-four films in the period of 1914 to 1947 and some of them are South of Suva as Marmaduke Grubb, People Are Funny as Mr. Pippensiegal, Gentleman Joe Palooka, Where There's Life as Salesman. Besides films he also performed in several Broadways production like The Little Missus, The Mimic World, Oh, My Dear!, The Firefly, and How's Your Health? He was a part of Fortune Gallo's San Carlo Opera Company and joined ASCAP in 1957.

  • His father was a revolutionary war soldier in between 1754 to 1834 who purchased land in the military tract in New York which was the at the time was frontier and built a house named "Atwell's Corners" there. Now, it is called Pompey Hollow south of Syracuse, New York, near Cazenovia.
  • He was also a composer and he had written the words to a song "When a Piece of Toast Climbs Your Bedpost with a Cigar" and a popular song Some Little Bug is Going to Find You, recorded in 1915.
  • He was new on Broadway and was nervous that's why he misdelivered the lines on the stage. He had to say "It is spring and all the little birds are twittering in the treetops." but he said instead of that: "Tis tig and the twits are bordering in the tree flops." All of the audience began to laugh and he was requested to repeat those lines in the next show.
  • His small mistake made him more successful. He wants to become a simple actor but he became a comedian due to his misdelivered lines.
  • He had given his voice to the character Doc the Head Dwarf in Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.
