Career of M. G. Ramachandran
After working in Congress until 1953, he became a part of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He became a member of State Legislative Council in 1962. He started Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam after leaving DMK in 1972 which was later on renamed to All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). Furthermore, he became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 1977 and remained in the position until his death in 1987.

- The actor-cum-politician was attacked and shot two times in his left ears by his co-worker M.R.Radha. At the time, he was filming for the movie “Kaavalkaran” opposite J. Jayalalithaa. The doctors underwent an operation to save his life but he lost hearing in the affected ear and also had ringing problems. His speaking parts in the film were reduced as a result of operation. Over fifty thousand fans assembled in the hospital within a few hours of the shooting, and many people cried in the streets. He remained in the hospital for six weeks and campaign for the Madras Legislative Assembly election from the hospital bed. He got twice the votes compared to his Congress rival.
- Though he was a successful ruler but was being accused of sponsoring LTTE and their cadres with which they received military training. He also gifted Rupees four crore to the LTTE without informing Indian government.

- The politician was also active in philanthropy works and was the first donor during Sino-Indian War who donated rupees 75000 to the war fun. He also donated a golden sword which weigh above half a kilogram to Mookambika temple in Kollur, Udupi district.
- A commemorative coin of Rupees 100 and Rupees 5 was issued by central government in his honor. Also, Chennai bus stand was named as Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R. Bus Terminus, Chennai Railway station was named as Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station and Cental metro is named as Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro to honor the late politician.
