He started his acting career with Broadway and appeared in a historical play 'Carry Nation.' He played a starring role in the comedy film "The Philadelphia Story." After providing military service at the time of Second World War he returned to acting and worked in films like It's a Wonderful Life, Call Northside 777, You Gotta Stay Happy. He also worked in the film "Rear Window."
