He made his acting debut with Herbert Berghof's production "Twelfth Night." He played a lead role in the play "Mother Courage and Her Children." He initially debuted with a small role in "Bonnie and Clyde." He gained recognition with his character Willy Wonka in the film " Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." He starred in the film "Funny About Love." He also starred in the sitcom ' Something Wilder.'
