He played many character roles in films as well as television and appeared in films like The Angry Silence, Touch and Go, Yangtse Incident and Buccaneers and in television, he gave his performance in The Tip and Treasure Island but he is known for his performance in Public Eye.

- He started working in his teen-age when he was only fourteen years old in a railway repair firm in London City. He also worked as a club steward and in a silk warehouse.
- Besides working in odd jobs he joins a local amateur dramatics group and won a scholarship to join RADA in 1937.
- After two years of joining RADA, he got an opportunity to work at the Barn Theatre in Shere, Surrey. His registration as a conscientious objector at the time of Second World War put a break to his career.
- He worked for Watergate Theatre in 1950 and appeared in a play called Desire Caught by the Tail. And worked for three years at Birmingham Repertory Theatre and is known for his appearance in Sailor Beware!. He also worked for Royal Shakespeare Company and appeared infamous plays like Measure for Measure, Troilus and Cressida, Two Shakespearean Actors, Richard II, Romeo and Juliet and many more.
