  • In his childhood, his mother dies and left three children. His sister was sent to his mother's relative and he was sent to aunt Aunt Polly who was his father's sister and his husband but her husband doesn't like him and abuses him with the words so he ran away from their house and live with his uncle for seven years.
  • His uncle was very strict and he worked on the farm, tending sheep and helping the other labor in harvesting wheat and corn. His maximum teaching was self-taught. He read books at night in the light of burning pine knots which he takes from one of his uncle slaves. Later he became the school teacher in the Jackson's Mill.
  • For his whole life, he believed that his arms are longer than the others. Due to his sleeping habit, he was named as a 'champion sleeper' because he can sleep with food in his mouth.
