He was a genius, not only in academics but also in sports. He played table tennis representing his school and college. Also, he earned a green belt in Karate and attended a national level camp in Manali.
Batra was also a cadet of National Cadet Corps at his college and also took part in the Republic Day parade in 1994.
He was selected for the merchant navy but he was more passionate to serve the nation and do something more fascinating so he left the offer and started preparing for Combined Defence Services (CDS).
He used to say the slogan "Yeh Dil Maange More!" to signal to communicate the success of the mission.
Batra was posthumously awarded the highest military honour, Param Vir Chakra on Indepedence Day in 1999.
Several constructions are given his named like Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra Chowk. Also, Government College Palampur was renamed as Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra Government College, Palampur to give tribute to him.

Batra was assigned to recapture point 4875 after the success of Point 5140. It wasn't an easy job, the point was 17000 feet above from the sea level and 80 degree steep. He was shot while rescuing an injured soldier. After just a fraction of a second, an RPG hit him in the head. He lost his life, but the operation was successful, and the Indian flag was hoisted once again. His sacrifice for the country is unforgettable.
