About Prithviraj Chauhan

Prithviraj Chauhan was a great Indian ruler. His territory was spread over a large portion of North India including areas of Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan. He is known for his fight against the early Muslim invasion of India. Though not successful, his sacrifice is not forgettable. He is still remembered as a brave Indian King and legends of his bravery are taught to kids.

Career of Prithviraj Chauhan

He became the ruler after the death of his father with his mother as the regent as Chauhan was a minor at the time. He got attacked by Chandelas when he was arriving back to Delhi after tying knots with Padamsen's daughter. He won the first battle of Terain. He was captivated in the second battle with Mohammed Ghori who made him blind. Chauhan killed himself after killing Ghori.

Chauhan was a born warrior and started showing his potential since he was a kid. To the reader's surprise, he was a child when he killed a tiger without any weapon with his bare hands. In his early teens, he defeated Bhimdev who was king of Gujarat at the time.
He ruled in most of northwest India including the states like Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
The king stole the heart of princess Sanyukta with his handsome appearance with a height of over seven feet and also she had heard various stories of his bravery. She put the garland on a statue in her swamvar. Their love story is still popular when talked about Indian history.
His friend and poet Chand Bardai has written the poem "Prithviraj Raso" describing his life and bravery. Bardai also helped Chauhan to kill his enemy Muhammad Ghori in an archery competition with his poem as Chauhan was blind at the time.
It is also said that his Mohammed Ghori was a coward who attacked Chauhan in the midnight when most of his soldiers were sleeping. When Ghori was captivated by Chauhan in the first battle Chauhan left him unharmed. But Ghori was not as kind as Chauhan, he ordered his men to burn Chauhan's eyes with the hot iron rods so as to make him blind.
The ruler is popular in urban legend for his bravery as well as his love for Sanyukta. Many films and television series are made on him including a film starring Akshay Kumar.
